I’ve been doing a lot of reading and watching nutrition videos and it struck me that although I think I’ve been eating clean, I myself have become a victim of marketing and have let my guard down in regard to knowing exactly what I’m putting into my body.

There are a zillion new products on the market – substitutions for cheese, milk, sour cream, even nut and seed flour tortillas – but are we checking the nutritional value of these products or just jamming the equivalent of the same processed foods we’ve been trying to avoid down our throat? When we crave the richness of cheese or that unexplainable satisfaction of eating bread – turning to these alternatives seems like a great solution. But, I think it’s been a huge mistake, doing much more harm then I thought!

There are all sorts of opinions and studies across the board on nutritional guidelines – it can be quite confusing. The best you can do is read and watch and understand as much as you can and make your own choices. Be practical – your intuition should be able to tell you if something is good for you or not – but if you need help – just Google it!

For me – I’m getting back to basics! I know that if I eat whole fresh foods, organic foods that don’t come with labels – I know it’s good for me. I know it’s best to eat a good amount of fiber to keep me regular. I know if I want sweets it’s best to have fruit on hand, even frozen. I know the best way to stay on track is to prepare healthy staples (wild rice, cabbage soup, beans, chopped veggies) on Sunday so I can grab and go all week. I know that I should drink water first thing in the morning and throughout the day to stay hydrated, and I definitely know I need at least 60 minutes of exercise every day!

I’m back on the bandwagon, I’ll probably be crazy clean for the next several weeks. I’ll share my recipes and some things I learn along the way – and I hope I can be an inspiration to you if you too want to be all you can be! 🌺😃
